Dear Sharon

You know that bird, the heron?
The one with the long neck right?
I feel like I have never seen
a baby heron
I know they eat fish
Perhaps they eat herring
or swedish fish
or other bad dad jokes they got hooked on
when their babysitter said Go Fish
Do the mothers teach the children to fish?
Or do they feed them first?
Teach a bird to fish
Feed a bird a fish
Teach a bird to fly
Push a bird off a cliff
Maybe the fathers teach
That bird needs fish for life
and yes I must fly
When I eat the fish
Who is feeding me
Am I breaking? Bread?
Sometimes there are loaves
Sometimes just crumbs
Once I was a baker of bread

Now I am a fryer of bing
with billions served around the world but
the green onion crumbs
were lying around the party
at the Pond house
What fish were in the pond?
Different ones - mostly friends
some family, gathering
Breaking eggs
bings
bread
crumbs

I think the most important crumbs I have now
are the ones God left lying around for me
They are behind me
below me
before me
above me

You always help me
discern
What’s a crumb
a loaf
a bing
a bird

I need the birds
I need the words

Sometimes grief sometimes relief
Sometimes dope sometimes hope

Always peace
Always the Word

Amen
